Introducing Google Analytic -4 and Step to create event through Google Tag Manager

google analytic 4 blog

Everyone knows Google Analytics-4 has introduced a couple of months ago but now Google has been forced to replace Google UA with GA-4.

Many guys avoided adopting it earlier because everything was changed in GA-4. We can not say it is an updated version of Google Analytics Universal with a small change, in actual GA-4 is totally different.

Differences in collecting the data

Google Analytics Universal collects the data in the form of a Page view, session, basic eCommerce, etc.

GA-4

  1. It collects the data in the form of an event. Everything is captured in the form of Events in Google Analytic-4
  2. Bounce rates are gone in GA-4, but you can compare the bounce rate in a different method like engagement rate.
  3. Automatic behavior reports are gone which used to see in Universal. Now you will have to create such reports by yourself in GA-4
  4. Such types of acquisition reports are also not available where you can see the last-day audience. Now you will have to go deeper to understand such reports in GA-4

No doubt there are lots of changes in the front end as well as backend in GA-4. But all over it is a very advanced tool and brings the data with more intelligence.

Benefits of GA-4

  1. You can get the option to create the events from GA-4 instead of Google Tag Manager.
  2. An enhancement tracking option is there which tracks some automatic events in GA-4.
  3. Reporting section is very strong, you can create depth reports if you are crazy to see the data more smartly.
  4. Very easy to convert the event into a Conversion.
  5. Much more

Let’s go to the first step if you are going to use it without wasting time.

First of all, you should have GTM. I hope you would know to implement the GTM if you don’t have it I can share the blogs, just drop a comment.

I believe you have already installed google universal and going to migrate with GA-4

Let’s go to google analytic

  1. Click on admin
  1. Click on data stream
  1. Click on Web if you are going to install on website
  1. Put your website url
  1. Such type of box would be opened and you would see “measurement ID” which is important.
  1. Go to Google Tag Manager (GTM) and click on Tag
  1. Select Google Analytics: GA 4 Configuration
  1. “Add measurement ID” which is asking here.
  1. Now click on Triggering in the bottom. And after the click trigger configuration then you will find below box.
  1. Select page view and keep going on for all pages like this.
  1. Save everything and click on the submit button in the end. Eveything is done now.

You will be able to see real time data and tomorrow you will see the data normally.

Now jump into Google Analytic -4. You would see many reports, explore, advertising and configure options in the left hand like this.

You would see many blogs and videos which would address the meaning of such options. But here we would talk a little advance which is important as per the data tracking perspective.

Acquisition

  • Acquisition Overview: This would show an overview report: new user, organic search, organic social, referral, etc.
  • User acquisition: you would see the user’s medium: organic search, organic social, referral, etc.
  • Traffic acquisition: this would show total traffic by medium

Engagement

  • Engagement overview: The overview report shows people who made an engagement on your website.
  • Event: This would show the number of events that happened while people engaged with your website
  • Conversion: This would be decided by you which event you want to show under conversion. And the same report would come up.

What is an Event and How to create it?

This is a very important thing to know if you want to see the actual tracking. Event means people did engagement on the website in the state of clicking URL, submitting the form, scrolling, add to cart, view cart, and anything which a user can do on your website.

If you are selling something it is important to know how is the user journey on your website. So you can improve it to convert into conversion.

How to create the Event

There are two methods of creating an Event, one is with GA-4, and the second is through GTM

I would recommend going with GTM because lots of other things are available in GTM, so learn as much as possible.

Let’s do practice with our website: https://www.bpadigitalmarket.com/

Here is the contact us form, we want to know how many people have submitted the form. It would be shown as an event for us in Google Analytics.

Here is the form, and let’s create the event for the “send message button”

Steps:

  1. Go to google tag manager and click on the tags button and create a new tag. Give the name of the event which you can remember in the future.
  1. Click on “tag configuration” and select “google analytic -4 events”
  1. Now you can have to create configuration tag for GA-4 so click on option “Select Configuratoin Tag”

Click on new tag, i have configured some tag already. First you would not see any, so click on “New Tag”. and give the measurement id and save it like this.

5. Give a name and click on the triggering tag. Click + button top of the page and select all elements. Then click on some clicks, option showing there like this.

Now choose the option of “click class”. And go to your website “send message button” click on inspect to see the class on button.

Right click on the button and inspect will be opened.

Copy the class name that is “forminator-button forminator-button-submit” , this is in my case, your website would have different.

Copy it and paste into the GTM and give the name of the trigger like this. And click on the save button until you reach back on GTM’s first page.

Now save it and submit it. You will start seeing events in real-time on GA-4.and from tomorrow under the engagement section.

If the event is not working, it means something is wrong. Cross-check it otherwise write to us so that we can revert you and suggest you.
